Spud Barges

Spud barges are used for a variety of marine construction operations. Our spud barge fleet is designed for use in the following areas of marine construction: pile driving, pipeline hook up, plugging and abandonment, heavy equipment lifting, pipeline repair, diver support and more.

Our spud barges, also known as jack-up barges, range from 88 feet to 140 feet in length, and can accommodate cranes, excavators and other heavy equipment needed to perform most marine construction jobs.

What is a spud barge?

A spud barge, or jack up barge is a type of vessel which is capable of providing a solid work platform in offshore, inland and coastal construction operations. Each "spud" consists of a heavy-duty pipe or other fabricated cylindrical object, which is driven into the sea floor or river bottom for increased stability when working with heavy equipment in marine environments. A typical spud barge can be used for a variety of applications ranging from pipeline construction to marine salvage operations.
